Last week, we took a look at Charles Bassey’s stock based on mock drafts after it was announced he’d be participating in this coming week’s NBA Draft Combine.
Well, in the wake of Tuesday night’s NBA Draft Lottery, a fresh wave of mocks are up, and we’ll see where Bassey stands now that we have something of a draft order.
ed note. — The number in parentheses indicate what selection the previous iteration of the mock had.
NBADraft.net: 19th overall to San Antonio (No change)
DraftSite.com: 45th overall to Boston (projected trade from Oklahoma City) (No change)
Heavy.com: 54th overall to Philadelphia (33rd, Philadelphia)
ESPN.com: 53rd overall to Utah (No change)
NBCSports.com: Previously mocked going 26th overall to Cleveland, Bassey has fallen out of NBCS’ one-round mock.
WalterFootball.com (ed. note — why is a football site mock-drafting hoops?): 30th overall to Milwuakee. “Bassey reclassified to the 2018 class and has all the physical attributes to be an effective low post player, but he also can step out and face up. Milwaukee dealt Thon Maker before the trade deadline and could lose Brook Lopez in free agency, so the roster could use options inside.” (No change)
Tankathon.com: 47th overall to Sacramento (No change)
The Athletic: 60th overall to Sacramento. “ Bassey is a tough prospect to peg right now. He was productive this season, but doesn’t really roll hard toward the basket and finish far above the rim. His mobility away from the basket also gives teams pause as to whether or not he’ll just get pulled away and taken advantage of by NBA guards. But his touch and rim protection make him intriguing for teams, at least.” (No change)
I wasn’t expecting there to be that little of a change in his draft stock, though a couple of these (Walter Football, NBADraft.net) haven’t updated their mocks since mid-April and I don’t blame these guys for not changing their entire draft around just because we know how the Top 10 will look in terms of who is picking where.
If there’s anything to take away from this, it’s that Bassey is entering this week’s combine as a solid second-round pick in terms of stock.
