WKU Basketball: There’s No Reason Diddle Can’t Be Packed Every Night
WKU fans, give yourself a pat on the back. You had been issued a challenge, and you accepted it.

The basketball program, and Rick Stansbury himself, asked for a sold out Diddle, and you made it possible. The student section was basically full 55 minutes before tipoff, it was loud and raucous throughout and it was an incredible atmosphere.
Unfortunately for you all, you’ve painted yourself into a corner — we know what Diddle can look like. Now, it needs to look like this every time the Tops take the court.
Mind you, it’s a Saturday night and lord knows folks will make plenty of excuses for why Thursday night games can’t look this way, but it’s a Saturday during winter break (okay, the tail end of winter break…) and that many students showed up.
The Kentucky game tipped at 7:30, right dab in the middle of the Tops’ first half, yet that wasn’t a hinderance to nearly 7,000 folks.
Sure, it’s easy to get up for Middle Tennessee, a long-time rival, and with a perfect conference record on the line. But, if you can get up for this WKU team and what they are and what they are capable of, there should be more 7,000+ attended games before the year’s end.
There are three home games left this season. Marshall will come to Diddle, and that’s a team the Tops scored 112 points on when they played two weeks ago.
Charlotte is also coming to Diddle, who the Tops should put about 120 up on.
ODU closes the Diddle slate, and at that point in the season (the third-to last game), conference seeding will most likely still be in play. Plus, ODU is awful good.
It’ll be a damn shame if any home game from here-on-out is less than 6,000. Hell, it’ll be a damn shame if any home game from here-on-out is less than 6,500.
Make any excuse you want about why or how this game was the outlier for you personally, but I’m going to have a hard time to buy it.
Yes, packing the arena for the Tops against MT is an cool, awesome thing that should happen every time they play.
But you know what else is a cool, awesome thing that should happen every time? Packing the arena for the Tops, full stop, regardless of opponent.
You’ve shown you can do it. There’s no excuse not to anymore.
