Freshman Tobias “T.J.” Howard will be transferring from the Hill. The 6'2 guard from Lithonia, Georgia played in over 30 games for WKU last season and averaged 3 points per game along with 1.3 assists and 1.4 rebounds.
While it always sucks to see a player transfer, it’s sort of understandable in this situation. With all the high level recruits coming to WKU next season, and most of them being guards, Howard’s playing time would probably be reduced due to spread minutes around to all the other players which is something he might not want to do. Howard had a lot of potential at the guard position for WKU but he may be looking for more playing time somewhere else.
One place he could end up is Jacksonville State. The Gamecocks were able to play their way into the NCAA Tournament under the reigns of their new head coach Ray Harper. Harper of course coached his last season at WKU in 2015–2016 and was the coach that recruited Howard to play at WKU so it could be possible that he joins the coach that recruited him.
As of right now, Howard is the only player from last season’s team that has requested to transfer and we hope it stays that way. Losing any player is bad but we echo what WKU’s official statement on his release by saying “we wish him well moving forward” to wherever he may go.
