It has been a wild ride of a season for WKU on the hardwood and, luckily, it wont be ending after a heartbreaking 67–66 loss to Marshall in the Conference USA title game.
Sunday night, we learned that WKU will be going to the NIT as a four seed, and will open the tournament against #5 Boston College at Diddle.
The rest of the Tops’ bracket looks like this:
The full bracket can be seen below:
This marks WKU’s 14th trip to the NIT, and their first since the 2005/06 season, their second trip in back-to-back years. WKU was the #6 seed in the Cincinnati bracket and dropped their first game against South Carolina, 74–55.
The Tops were tournament runners up back in 1942 when they lost 47–45 to West Virgina.
While it’s a bummer the Tops, and especially Justin Johnson, won’t be in this year’s NCAA tournament, it’s a good thing that this team isn’t done, and we will get to see what JJ, Dwight Coleby and Darius Thompson can do at least one more time.
The Tops and Eagles will tango at 7 p.m. on ESPN3.
