Camron Justice had 22 points on 5-of-7 three point shooter as Western Kentucky (2–0) defeated the Austin Peay Governors (1–1), 97–75.
Charles Bassey had a double-double with 10 points and 12 rebounds while Taveion Hollingsworth 21 points with seven rebounds and shot 2-of-3 from deep. Jared Savage has 11 points and struggled from deep shooting 1-of-5 and Carson Williams also got double figures with 12 points and six rebounds.
It was a very well balanced night for the Tops as they had all five starters over double figures and two starters with at least 20. The Tops shot 60% from the floor and 52% from deep for the game. AUSTIN Peay on the other hand shot 39% from the court and only 19% from beyond the arc. Bowling Green native Terry Taylor led the Governors with 22 points.
WKU’s defense looked stout once again as the team got five blocks and got seven steals. Ball handling wasn’t as good as the Tops gave up 16 turnovers to the Governor’s nine. All things considered, WKU was too much for Austin Peay as they led by 20 most of the second half and cruised to a 97–75 victory.
The Tops will now prepare for Eastern Kentucky in Richmond for an old school rivalry game on November 15th. It will be WKU’s third straight Ohio Valley opponent to start the season but with a rivalry game like this one, anything could happen so it will be interesting to see how the Tops do in their first true road environment of the season.
