WKU basketball gained its third verbal commitment in the class of 2018 on Sunday from power forward Galen Smith III from Bay St. Louis, Mississippi.
Smith joins guard Jeremiah Gambrell Jr. and JUCO transfer Matthew Horton as the current recruiting class of 2018 and is the second power forward to commit.
Smith committed to WKU the day after he was in attendance of the scrimmage the Tops had in Diddle Arena that was open to the public. He is currently listed as a two-star recruit according to Verbal Commits and had offers from Southern Miss, Jacksonville State, as well as a few other smaller schools in the south.
Smith is 6'10" and 240 pounds and will provide some much needed depth to the WKU frontcourt next season. Stansbury is going to have to build from scratch with the frontcourt recruiting wise because forwards Dwight Coleby and Justin Johnson both graduate this year and Moustapha Diagne will be a red-shirt junior but he still hasn’t been cleared by the NCAA to play this season so the power forward and center position is a position that Stansbury has to go after for next season and so far it’s paying off.
With his commitment, as well as JUCO transfer Horton who is 6'11", WKU will have two new big men as of now on the court next season. Smith will fill an immediate need for WKU in 2018.
