On Thursday morning, NBCSports’ College Basketball vertical, College Basketball Talk, released their preseason mid-major power rankings and a host of familiar names to Topper fans, including the Red Towels themselves, made the cut.
The Tops came in the Top 5, at number four, behind only 2018 Final Four team Loyola-Chicago, Marshall and Buffalo.
As has been the case with a lot of the preseason talk about the Tops, it doesn’t go too deep; Raphielle Johnson recapped last season, saying the Mitchell Robinson saga didn’t derail the Tops’ season, and notes WKU returns just two starters and boasts a pair of strong transfers and notes the departures of Justin Johnson and Dwight Coleby. (Oddly enough, no Charles Bassey mention.)
The only thing I take issue here is having Marshall being ranked above the Tops. Sure, I understand the thinking — the Herd won the conference over the Tops last March and went on to win an NCAA Tournament game — but what does that have to do with this year’s squad?
Anyway.
