WKU Basketball: Tops Lose at FAU, 78-69
In a close game with a lot of back and forth, FAU was able to walk away with the big C-USA win
Western Kentucky went to warm Boca Raton to take on the Owls and in a mostly close game, the Owls were able to pull away in the second half and beat WKU, 78-69.
Dayvion McKnight lead WKU in points with 22 points and six rebounds. Cam Justice looked a lot better tonight and had 18 points on 2-of-4 shooting from deep. Jairus Hamilton had 11 points and Luke Frampton had six points and a block against FAU’s 7’1 center. Jamarion Sharp had a really off night and never scored. He struggled against FAU’s Vlad Golden and had four fouls but four blocks.
Meanwhile FAU shot 49% from the field and were led by Alijah Martin in points with 13 points as they took down the Tops.
In the first half, Justice started off hot and had nine of WKU’s 12 early points. The Tops would make a run and FAU would come back and the lead changed several times before WKU led at halftime 36-33.
In the second half, we saw more back and forth but as the game progressed, the Owls were able to heat up and eventually break out to a 65-59 lead with less than five minutes left. Sharp went down with a knee injury that looked really scary for a moment but he was thankfully able to get up and walk it off. But once the Owls got hot late, the Tops never recovered and lost 78-69.
WKU are now 10-8 overall and 2-3 in C-USA and 1-6 in true road games. This team has a lot to work on if they want any hope of salvaging this season by March and tonight showed that.
Final stats from Boca Raton:
A losing record is quite possible this year.
