The WKU men’s basketball team has arrived in Costa Rica and they’re already gearing up for their first contest of the trip.
Laurentian, the Voyagers, have actually already had a game under their belt this summer — in Costa Rica actually — defeating Montana 76–67 on Saturday. Grady Kadre led the way offensively, scoring 24 points in 34 minutes for the Voyagers while Sykes Joe added 15 in 24 minutes.
In last year’s regular season, the Voyagers went 9–10 but won five of their last six games. They shot around 41% from the floor on the season but lost the year-long rebound average by -2.5.
And that’s…really all I could find on them. But, hey, they defeated Montana so maybe there’s something there.
On the Tops’ side of things, it’ll be the first time we get to see what a nearly entirely new Stansbury squad is made out of, sans Mitchell Robinson of course. However, Justin Johnson is back, and we’ll see what his returning presence brings as he anchors the floor with the newcommers.
As for a starting lineup prediction, I honestly have no freaking clue. Not that a starting lineup will mean much — this is a prefect time for Stansbury to experiment and mix-and-match his looks on the floor to see what works and what doesn’t. But, for what it’s worth, lets take a shot at this lineup:
G —Lamonte Bearden
G — Jordan Brangers
G — Taveion Hollingsworth
F — Justin Johnson
F — Dwight Coleby
Even though there’s no way to actually watch the game, just knowing that the Tops will be playing basketball makes all things right in the world.
What will you be looking for in the first game of the offseason for the Tops? How do you think they’ll line up? What lineup do you think will work best on the floor? Let us know in a comment below, via Twitter at @TheTowelRackWKU or on our Facebook page.
