WKU held on to beat Wright State, despite the Raiders keeping the game close in the first half, to win 78–60.
Darius Thompson led WKU with 18 points (3-for-5 from three) while Johnson had 13 points (2-for-3 from three) and 12 rebounds. Wright State’s Grant Benzinger led all scorers with 19 points.
Wright State was able to hang with WKU for the majority of the first half and even took a 23–22 lead about halfway through the first half with a three but that would be the only time they would lead. WKU went on a hot streak to end the half and led 41–30 at halftime.
WKU struggled more with turnovers tonight, logging 14, but still shot 52% for the game and 42% from downtown. Tonight’s game didn’t really have any horrible moments but also nothing special either. It was still a good effort from WKU to give them their 6th win of the season.
WKU’s win streak will continue into their game against Ohio University on Sunday, Dec. 10, who is a favorite to win (according to ESPN’s Basketball Power Index). It’s amazing how much everyone is still sleeping on this Hilltopper team, even after beating a nationally ranked Purdue team (that recently beat Louisville) but they’ve always thrived in the underdog role so it’s something they’ve learned to embrace.
Here’s the final stats from tonight’s game:
