After several canceled games due to COVID-19 and most recently a canceled series against North Texas due to weather, AD Todd Stewart has worked his scheduling magic once again and landed a matchup for the Tops against a top 10 team in the country.
The Tops will travel to Houston to play a strong Cougars team that has only lost three games on the year and are currently sitting at #6 in the nation this Thursday. This was definitely a surprising addition but one that could land the Tops in the Big Dance if they were to win.
Houston have dominated until they got to AAC play where they lost some games they shouldn’t have. Their losses are Wichita State, East Carolina, and Tulsa and their most impressive win is against Texas Tech. Since they’ve been in conference play they have shown that they are beatable.
This is a huge matchup, especially for WKU. If Houston win, they get a pretty good win but if the Tops were to pull off an upset it would likely be the win they need to put themselves in the NCAA Tournament as an at-large.
The opportunity to add a quadrant one win this late in the season for WKU is super rare and I hope they’re well rested and rearing to go play against a top 10 team. The game will be available on ESPN2 and WKU also pushed back their games against FIU to Sunday and Monday.
