After an uninspired first half of basketball, the Hilltoppers (5–1 in C-USA) were able to come back in the second half once again and take down then sole leader of C-USA Charlotte 49ers (5–1 in C-USA) in a final score of 80–63.
Taveion Hollingsworth looked like his freshman self dropping 30 points and tallied six rebounds as well. Jared Savage added 20 points and five rebounds and Carson Williams scored 15 points and six rebounds as the Tops shot 52% from the field.
Camron Justice returned to the action despite missing the past few games but failed to get anything going as he finished with only two points and six turnovers.
In the first half, WKU looked really sloppy and had several turnovers and miscues on offense. Charlotte didn’t do too bad but weren’t able to have much consistency either, especially in the second half. They shot 42% from the field for the game and 29% from deep.
Charlotte was unbeaten in Conference USA play until tonight. The Tops showed that even without Bassey, they shouldn’t be slept on. This team has the potential to compete for a conference title but it’s still a long road to go and anything can happen between now and March.
Hoping this win gives WKU confidence as they look to hit the road against Marshall in a back-to-back Moonshine Throwdown series coming up.
