Western Kentucky will open their 2021/22 campaign at home against Alabama State, according to the Bowling Green Daily News’ Jared MacDonald.
This will be the fourth all-time meeting between the Hilltoppers and Hornets.
WKU is 3–0 all-time against Alabama State, with the most recent victory coming November 12, 2016.
The Hornets struggled in last year’s all-conference play, going just 4–14 in the SWAC and ending the year on a six-game losing streak.
ASU will almost assuredly be one of the few “gimme” games on the Tops’ schedule this year, so opening the season by dipping the toe in the water against the Hornets is a best-case scenario.
There’s also a good chance this is WKU’s only game before a reported MTE in Asheville, N.C. that’ll feature Minnesota, South Carolina and another team to be announced, so a strong start could set the tone for what has the potential to be a very important weekend for the Hilltoppers.
