The Hilltoppers are going to shoot hoops for a good cause, as it was announced on Thursday that the Tops and Samford Bulldogs will be playing in a hurricane relief exhibition.
The benefit is for the Red Cross and their Hurricane Irma relief efforts after the storm left Florida in poor condition.
The obvious other benefit is it adds another game on the schedule for the Tops before the regular season begins, and is a great way to do some good while also having some fun.
For those of you who are contemplating the 3ish-hour trek on Sunday (which I’d suggest because why not) or who live in the area and are going, the game is technically free but Samford is requesting a $10 donation.
Samford is led by former Kentucky player Scott Padgett (so, you know, extra motivation to win) and were selected to finish second in the SoCon, behind only Mercer (who has a couple of high-profile NCAA tourney wins under their belt).
The Tops have never lost to Samford in regular-season competition, with the last meeting coming on November 23 in a 67–64 victory in Diddle.
