WKU Basketball: Tops Win Four Straight, Win at UTSA, 71-65
Tops keep the momentum going and win in San Antonio
Western Kentucky were able to keep up in a close game and get another conference win: this time in San Antonio as they defeated the Roadrunners, 71-65.
Jairus Hamilton and Josh Anderson both had 18 points for the game while Jamarion Sharp had only five points but 12 rebounds and three blocks. Cam Justice had 12 points but didn’t shoot as well. He was still 3-of-10 from deep and had six rebounds. Luke Frampton had eight points and only shot 2-of-6 from deep and Dayvion McKnight had ten points and six assists.
UTSA was led by Jacob Germany who had 26 points and 11 rebounds and the Roadrunners shot 43% from the floor.
In the first half, it was a mostly close game. The Tops looked pretty good early and were able to lead 30-18 ten minutes into the game but UTSA clawed their way back in and made it close. WKU would lead at the half, 37-35.
The second half was just as close. The Tops would get a 50-43 lead just six minutes into the second half but once again, UTSA came back and were even able to eventually get the lead. Thankfully when the heat turned up, WKU were able to not fall apart despite only six players playing most of the game and hold off the Roadrunners to get their fourth straight win.
After seeing the Tops’ five game losing streak, most of us thought this season was hopeless. But they’ve turned it around here recently and are 14-11 overall and 6-6 in C-USA with a game against Southern Miss incoming. If WKU win it they’ll be over .500 in C-USA play and would be in good position to make a run to get back in the top of the East division.
