Yeah, this stretch of the schedule makes little since, but we’re gonna roll with it!
And, luckily for the Tops, they’ll open their first of two Lone Star State swings against a just putrid UTEP team.
Much love to our UTEP fans out there, especially the folks over at Miner Rush.
So, unfortunately, there aren’t a ton of questions to be asked ahead of this matchup. But, that doesn’t mean there aren’t any.
Will the real Omega Harris please stand up?
Omega Harris is one of my favorite players in Conference USA, and last year was a stud, averaging 17 points per game in 36.4 minutes while also logging 3.6 rebounds, 2.1 assists and 1.3 steals a night.
This year he’s been…less productive. In fact, he’s having one of his least-productive seasons of his offensive career, averaging just 11.4 points (his only worse mark was when he averaged 6.7 points his freshman year). Having said that, he’s finding ways to contribute still — he’s averaging 3.5 rebounds, 1.9 assists and .9 steals a night.
Not surprisingly, Harris is the Points Produced leader — by a longshot — for the Miners, having been responsible for 229 points this year (but, to put that in perspective, Darius Thompson leads WKU with 324 PProd, and Justin Johnson [276], Lamonte Bearden [264], Dwight Coleby [255] and Taevion Hollingsworth [248] are all responsible for more).
So, basically, the Tops can’t sell out defensively to try and force Harris to beat them one way or the other. There’s a way to stop him all over, and they need to find a way.

Will WKU be caught sleeping?
Real talk for just a moment — the only way WKU loses this game is if they come out just as flat as they could possibly be. I mean, they’re going to have to look worse than they did to open the Missouri State game and to close the La Tech game combined.
But, it isn’t out of the question (insert the “that’s why you play the game” adage). The Tops do have a very intriguing matchup against UTSA staring them in the face on Saturday, and if they walk into El Paso with the same attitude that’s bleeding all throughout this article, they could trip up and essentially ruin everything they’ve built in terms of a potential tournament resume.
But, I don’t see that happening and boy howdy do I hope I’m right.
Yeah, that’s it for this edition. Short and sweet.
