WKU Football lost a heartbreaker to Marshall and dropped to 5–3 on the season. Despite the loss, WKU fans can still explore planning a December trip to a bowl game after a one-season break from bowling. WKU would only have to go 1–3 the rest of the way to reach the six wins required for bowl eligibility. Here are your Conference USA standings through nine weeks:
Reminder, Conference USA has five primary bowl tie-ins and three secondary tie-ins. Thus far Rice, UTEP & ODU look like they’re probably out of the postseason race with teams such as Charlotte and MTSU keeping their postseason hopes alive last weekend. I think C-USA will have at least eight teams that will end up bowl eligible so getting to seven wins will be crucial for WKU. With that in mind, here are the latest bowl projections across the internet post-Week 9.

After the Marshall lost the No Bowl projections moved from one to two (CBS Sports and 247 Sports). If they are taking their projections seriously they may have doubts about WKU picking up a win or two over the course of the four games
The loss hurts WKU’s chances at the Gasparilla Bowl, which I believe is WKU’s #1 choice. WKU recruits Florida hard and the chance at a solid AAC matchup would probably put that over the top in the administration's eyes. By no longer being in the driver's seat in the East division, It has moved several of WKU’s projections to secondary CUSA tie-ins. I still selfishly would want the New Orleans Bowl because WKU hasn’t played in it yet and Bourbon Street would be awesome. Also, the potential matchup against a ranked Appalachian State would be a chance for a statement win.
We’ll continue to update you weekly on the projections and as more outlets (Bleacher Report, The Athletic, etc.) release their projections following Week 9.
