On Monday, as is customary, the Hilltoppers depth chart was released. Except, there was one noticeably absent name from it.

That’s right. Topper quarterback Drew Eckels is no where to be seen on this week’s depth chart, and in Monday’s weekly presser, head coach Mike Sanford said that Eckels wont be available this week.
We stuck to the script that we had if Drew Eckels wasn’t going to be available — and Drew will not be available this week. We will continually evaluate that, there has been a lot of improvements in his mobility and his ability to get a full range of motion back in his throwing shoulder. But to this point, we’re not in a place to say that Drew is cleared to play this week and that will be a week-by-week decision that will be updated by Jessica Judd, our trainer.
Sounds like the upper body injury Eckels suffered against Maine (or potentially suffered against Wisconsin and aggravated against Maine) is worse than originally thought.
For now, the job continues to be Davis Shanley’s, and he’ll have another road test on Saturday against Ball State.
