Conference USA announced earlier on Wednesday that five WKU football contests were added to accommodate the conference’s national TV schedule.
Aside from the previously announced televised games, the Oct. 20 game against Old Dominion and Nov. 17 game against MTSU on CBS Sports Network and the recently announced Sept. 9 game against Illinois to be broadcast on the Big Ten Network, five games have been added, three to air on Stadium and two more on beIN.
Stadium, the network formerly known as American Sports Network, will air contests against Louisiana Tech (Sept. 16), Ball State (Sept. 23) and Florida Atlantic (Nov. 11).
BeIN will air the Moonshine Throwdown against Marshall on Nov. 11 and the regular season finale for the Tops in FIU, a game that has been moved from Saturday, Nov. 25 to Friday, Nov. 24 (the Friday after Thanksgiving).
As it stands, the only games not scheduled for broadcast this year are the season opener against Eastern Kentucky on Sept. 2nd, at UTEP on Oct. 7, the homecoming game against Charlotte the following week on Oct. 14 and the matchup against Vandy on Nov. 4 (although, lets be honest, it’ll be a miracle if that game isn’t picked up by someone).
It turned out to be a blessing in disguise that the Tops close the year on the road this season — a post-Thanksgivig Saturday would be a rough turnout, regardless of the opponent, but a post-Thanksgiving Friday would have been even worse.
It’s curious that, at the very least, the homecoming game isn’t on a broadcast schedule either, but there’s still plenty of time for it to get picked up.
What do you think of the added games? I think it’s kind of crap that the Throwdown wont be on a more accessible network. Let us know with a comment below, on twitter @TheTowelRackWKU or on our brand spankin’ new Facebook page!
