Last Game
WKU traveled down to Miami to take on the FIU Golden Panthers on the day after Thanksgiving. The game was back in forth in the first half with FIU taking a 13–10 lead into the locker room at the half. After WKU took a 17–10 lead with 9:49 left in the half it was all downhill for the Hilltoppers. Blown coverages, special teams miscues and turnovers allowed FIU to end the game 28–0 run as the Golden Panthers gave the Hilltoppers their worst defeat of the year in a 41–17 defeat.
Two weeks ago, Georgia State hosted a 3–8 Idaho team playing its last game in FBS. The Panthers jumped out to a 7–0 lead on their opening drive of the game but Idaho scored 24 of the games 27 points the rest of the way as Georgia State was humbled in a 24–10 defeat moving their record to 6–5 on the season.

During Bobby Petrino’s lone season on the hill in 2013, the Tops traveled down to the Georgia Dome to take on an 0–8 Panthers team during their first transition year to FBS. WKU dominated early jumping out to a 31–7 lead midway through the 3rd quarter. Georgia State would cut that deficit to 10 before the Tops would tack on two more touchdowns in a 48–28 WKU win. Keshawn Simpson finished with four rushing touchdowns for WKU in front of an announced crowd of just 5,377 as the Panthers would go on to finish the season 0–12.

The match-up might not be juicy but getting to watch WKU’s forth straight bowl game is still better than the alternative. We’ll all look for the Hilltoppers to send out Mike White and the senior class in style against a very beatable opponent. A win won’t salvage a disappointing season but it will leave a good feeling going into the offseason ahead of a very crucial year two for Mike Sanford and company.
Go Tops! This should be a perfect day for football. A fourth straight bowl win will be worth celebrating. We’ll be in Orlando live tweeting the bowl experience. If you’re down there send us your tailgating pictures via Twitter at @TheTowelRackWKU or on our Facebook page and we’ll share.
