Last Week
WKU traveled up to Muncie, Indiana to take on the 1–2 Ball State Cardinals. After trailing 10–7 at halftime, Steven Duncan came in for the injured starter, Davis Shanley and led the Tops on three touchdown scoring drives as WKU came back from a 20–14 deficit in the fourth quarter to head back to Bowling Green with a 28–20 win, their first of the season.
Marshall hosted the ACC’s N.C. State Wolfpack in front of a 32,000+ fans at Edwards Stadium. The Herd would spot NC State a 10–0 lead before cutting the deficit to three in the second quarter on an 82-yard touchdown pass from Green to Williams. NC State would rattle off 13 straight points taking a 23- 7 lead into the locker room. Marshall would rally cutting the deficit to 6 and 10 points throughout the third quarter but a pick-six by the Wolfpack at the end of the third quarter would end the Herds chances in a 37–20 loss.

Last Meeting
The fourth installment of the Moonshine Throwdown occurred in early November with WKU standing at 5–4 looking for bowl eligibility. The game started off as well as possible with the Tops scoring a touchdown on their opening drive. Marshall rattled off a 20–0 run and WKU eventually fell behind 30–10 heading into the fourth quarter. WKU would rally on the strength of two Mike White touchdown throws but couldn’t recover the ensuing onside kick as Marshall would run out the clock to hold onto a 30–23 win.

Last week’s victory gives WKU fans some hope that the season can turn around. That hope makes this rivalry matchup that much more important. A win against the Herd would not only piss off their fans but could serve as a signature springboard win heading into WKU’s bye week. The blackout atmosphere and the win potential make this one to look forward to. Let’s see if the Tops continue the positive vibes or head to their bye week 1–4.
