Last Week
WKU traveled down to UAB to face the 3–1 Blazers, WKU would jump out to an early 7–3 lead on a Kevaris Thomas touchdown pass to Mitchell Tinsley. That wouldn’t last however as three first-half turnovers turned a statistically even game into a 24–14 halftime deficit. It wouldn’t get better in the second half as the offense couldn’t get anything going and UAB returned a blocked punt for a touchdown. The Blazers would cruise handing WKU a 14–37 Loss as the Hilltoppers would fall to 1–4 on the season.
This is Chattanooga’s only game during the fall season. During the last week of the 2019 season, the Mocs traveled to VMI looking to finish the season on a high note. Despite outgaining the Keydets 451 to 264 yards, the Mocs would turn an early 10–3 lead into a 31–10 deficit in the 3rd quarter mainly due to two big turnover returns. The Mocs would mount a comeback but would fall short in a 24–31 Loss finishing their season 6–6.

Last Meeting
In 2007, during their first season of the FBS transition, a 5–3 Hilltopper squad hosted the 2–6 Mocs during an early November contest. In a game that head coach David Elson termed “an ugly win”, The Hilltoppers were deadlocked in the fourth quarter tied at 21. Chattanooga was driving inside the WKU 30 when WKU safety Bo Smith picked off Chattanooga QB Antonio Miller. the offense would respond as running back Tyrell Hayden racked up 51 of WKU’s 75 yards on the last drive and running back Marrell Booker would score the game-deciding touchdown on a 12-yard touchdown run clinching a 28–21 victory as WKU moved to 6–3 on the season.

Excitement Level — 3
The thrill is gone for fans in 2020 as the 1–4 start has taken away all enthusiasm about this team. This should be a chance for WKU to get right and take a step forward before a very challenging Halloween matchup against BYU. Memories of recent FCS losses to Maine and Central Arkansas also leaves an air of caution headed into this matchup. Hopefully, the Hilltoppers can get their second win and set themselves up for a better second half of the season. We’ll see.
