Last Week
WKU hosted FIU for homecoming. After making it to the redzone three times and settling for just 3 points, the Tops limped to a 38–17 defeat that was as close as it sounds ending WKU’s bowl eligibility streak at seven seasons.
MTSU dominated Old Dominion and continued to keep pace towards the top of the Conference USA East race. The Blue Raiders elimated ODU from the postseason with a convincing 51–17 victory.

Last Meeting
WKU hosted arch rival MTSU on senior night in the 100 Miles of Hate. WKU jumped out to a 7–0 lead and clinged to a 10–3 lead heading into the fourth quarter. MTSU tied it up and took the lead on a fumbled backward pass. WKU would rally and the teams would enter overtime tied at 24–24. After trading scores in the first two overtime periods, MTSU kicker Canon Rooker missed a 42-yard field goal to start off the third overtime. Ryan Nuss would then drill a 37-yard field goal field goal for WKU as they survived to win 41–38 in three overtimes to become bowl eligible for the seventh season in a row.

The dream of a postseason berth is already over but hey this is a rivalry game. I think most fans have fairly moved onto basketball but extending the winning streak over Middle would be huge for fan psyche and Mike Sanford’s job. The probability of that happening is low however so we’ll see how WKU responds to just playing for pride instead of a bowl berth.
