I don’t need to tell you, but I’m gonna anyway — the Tide are coming off an all out thrashing against Southern Cal, but head coach Nick Saban said after the game that there was still work that needed to be done. In a game in which the Tide hung 50 points on the Trojans and didn’t allow a touchdown.
Eeeshh.
Three Thangz: WKU vs. Alabama Crimson Tide
2016 is officially underway, and what a crazy first weekend of football we saw. Saturday was so nuts, that the Tops…medium.com
Anyway, kickoff is at 2:30 CT on ESPN2, for those of you (me included) who wont be in Tuscoloosa.
And, hey, what a surprise — all four of us got our predictions right last week. And if I were a betting man, I’d say we all four get it right again. But boy would I love to be wrong.

Honestly, what hasn’t been said about this week’s game — WKU can’t be overlooked even though they don’t get national respect/attention, the Tops will out perform what USC did last weekend, Alabama could find themselves in a trap game with Ole Miss on the horizion next week. You’ve heard it all, so I wont bore you with it here.
I think Mike White posts another 300+ yard game and throws for at least two touchdowns. I think Ace Wales has a better game than what he had last week. I think the Tops come out fired and punch Bama in the mouth and take a two-score lead, like a 10–3 or something very odd score.
However, I also think Bama comes out fired up for the second half, and life becomes unfun for a few minutes to be a Topper. In my Q&A with Erik Evans of Roll Bama Roll, I predicted a 45–24 win, and that’s what I’ll stick with here.

This time around with the Tide, things will be a little bit different, but ultimately the same. WKU’s offense is loads better than what Kuwan Jakes and company brought to the table in the 35–0 final four years ago. In addition, the Hilltoppers defense is better as well. You place those factors in, and you have an offense that can produce 13 points, one TD and two FGs. While also holding the Bama offense to 31 points rather than the 35 from the last outing. At the end of the day, it’s a secure Roll Tide victory, but still an impressive outing from a growing football program and the nation’s most “notorious” offense the past two seasons. Alabama wins, 31–13.

The Tops roll into Alabama after a week one domination of a conference foe in Rice. Alabama is the number one team in the nation, so in no way, shape or form is this a walk in the park. WKU last week escaped with some luck as Rice continually shot themselves in the foot allowing the Hilltoppers to run away with the game. With Bama being able to roll in line after line after line of depth, it will wear down the Tops. Mike White had a heck of a showing in week one and I expect him to do admirably this week as well. However, if WKU has any hopes of winning this game or even staying competitive the running game that was abysmal last week will have to show up. All that being said White goes for 250 with a TD and Int, the running game has another sad game on the ground with just 50 yards. Tops lose 38–7. (I’d give them more points but the kicking game has never convinced me so i think they miss two field goals).

The success of the Tops tremendous season debut against Rice should not cloud the fanbase’s judgement when it comes to the Tops’ chances against the number one ranked team in the nation. Alabama is the standard bearer when it comes to how a top program should be run. They have talent, depth, experience, and arguably the best coach in the nation. I do think that WKU will perform better than USC did last week. I think this will be the game to see how good WKU can be. If we are able to move the ball effectively, it’ll show that Mike White and the offense is truly capable of moving on from Brandon Doughty. I am also interested to see how our defense performs. Alabama has a lot of talent on the offensive side of the ball. I think the Tops could force a few turnovers because of the youth of Alabama, especially on offense. However, Alabama is still too strong. I do not expect the game to be that close. Alabama will eventually pull away with a 45–14 win.
Now, it’s your turn to sound off. Do the Tops shock the world? Do they even keep it close? Let us know in a comment below or on twitter at @TheTowelRackWKU.
