WKU Football: Hilltoppers to Face Appalachian State in Boca Raton Bowl
The Hilltoppers are headed to a bowl for the third-straight year as they’ll take on the Mountaineers in Boca Raton.
The Western Kentucky Hilltoppers are officially bowl bound, as they’ll take on the Appalachian State Mountaineers in the Boca Raton Bowl on December 18, 2021.
The game will be at 10 a.m. CT and broadcast on ESPN.
WKU is going to a bowl game for the third-straight season and are in search of their first bowl win since winning the First Responders Bowl in 2019.
The Hilltoppers enter the Boca Raton Bowl with an 8-5 record and a good chance to win a ninth game for the fourth time since 2015. WKU won the 2016 Boca Raton Bowl, 51-31, over Memphis.
WKU fans were hoping to find a different date for their bowl this year, with the Tops set to host Louisville at Diddle Arena at 1:30 p.m. CT on Dec. 18, but the options were slim and the Tops’ loss in the C-USA title game probably didn’t help that cause.
App State enters the matchup with a 10-3 record and went 7-1 in Sun Belt play, winning the Sun Belt’s “Group A” division.
The ‘Neers’ signature wins include a one-point win over Marshall and a three-point win over Coastal Carolina. App also nearly beat the Miami Hurricanes, falling 25-23, on September 11.
The Boca Raton Bowl will be the first meeting between the two schools at the FBS level and the sixth all-time. App is 4-1 in the series, with the lone WKU win coming on September 8, 1973.
