*nervous emoji* hehe. I knew that.
Yes, during our unscheduled week-long hiatus, the Tops cruised against Houston Baptist and return to football reality, and Conference USA play, tonight in Ruston, Louisiana to take on Louisiana Tech.
The game will begin at 7 CT and is televised on the CBS Sports Network. To the predictions! *Batman music*
Ed. note — Even though we did not run a prediction for last week vs. Houston Baptist, I’m still giving everyone a win in the prediction column because, come on.
Fletcher (4–1)
Much like the Vanderbilt game, I’m not quite sure what I’m supposed to think of this game.
On one hand, you have an offense that was able to make absolutely everything click against Houston Baptist and put up numbers reminiscent of the Doughty days. On the other, well, it was against Houston Baptist.
Having said that, on paper, it seems Louisiana Tech is having similar struggles in trying to find itself post-star player leaving. They’re without Jeff Driskel and Kenneth Dixon (it was the latter of those who absolutely tore the Tops apart two years ago) yet are still posting numbers despite a 2–3 record.
Quarterback Ryan Higgins has thrown more than 1,400 yards, running back Jarred Craft is nearly to 600 yards on the ground and receiver Trent Taylor has hauled in eight touchdowns and 750+ yards. If they don’t beat you one way, they will another.
I just don’t think the Tops are as offensively versatile as the Bulldogs are. It’s weird to not be able to trust a Brohm offense, but here we are. Mark me down for a Techster victory along the lines of 34–28.
Marcus (4–1)
Hilltoppers fell the last time they traveled to Ruston, and it wasn’t pretty. While I don’t think this trip won’t be nearly as ugly, I’m still predicting the same result. The WKU offense hasn’t proven to me they can win on the road. The defense will hold their own, but with a lack of help from the offense, this one ends with both teams at .500. I’ll take La Tech, 27–24.
Three Thangz: WKU vs. Louisiana Tech Bulldogs
Oh, hello again. Nice to be talking to you.medium.com
Will (5–0)
The Tops get back into conference play but, of course, not with a cake game. WKU sits 1–1 against LA Tech since joining CUSA. Going into Ruston isn’t easy, especially with how beat up the Toppers are.
Additionally I am still not convinced by this offense. Yes they bounced back and put 50 up on Houston Baptist but come on, I shouldn’t have to explain myself. I’m going with Louisiana Tech 32–27.
Josh (4–1)
This is an important game for the Hilltoppers. After an easy win last week, the Tops have a much tougher opponent when they travel to face the Bulldogs.
La Tech is always a tough opponent, and they were the last conference loss for WKU. I expect this game to be close until the very end. La Tech has some really good players, and wide reciever Trent Taylor is someone who can play on Sundays.
I am really interested to see how Mike White performs, as he has had an up and down season. If he performs well and can get the ball to his playmakers effectively, I think WKU has an easy victory. However he has not earned my trust yet.
WKU has had issues with their defense wearing down at the end of games, and the offense cannot afford to have many three-and-outs. However, I still think WKU has enough playmakers and a strong defense in order to win this game 31–24.
I’d argue that this could be a trap game, but I highly doubt Brohm is allowing his guys to look past the Bulldogs with MTSU on the horizon. It should be a good one tonight. How do you think the Tops will do in their return to Ruston? Let us know in a comment below or on twitter @TheTowelRackWKU.
