We’ve made it to Monday and today will be an interesting one on the Hill. Today is when Mike Sanford and a couple of players will address the BG media following their narrow victory against UTEP and help preview the Charlotte game.
As said previously by both myself and Ross, I’m interested in how Sanford is going to spin this one. I’ll be shocked if he comes out and admits how bad a performance it was, but he very well might do just that.
Anyway, that is neither here nor there. We are here to talk about what I have to say about this coming week’s matchup. So, let’s get to it.
I tweeted over the weekend that I didn’t think it was out of the question that the Tops could lose to the 49ers and, despite starting 0–2 in conference play, the 9ers have been in each CUSA game so far. They lost to FIU by one point and lost 14–3 to Marshall just this past weekend. Granted, it’s FIU (who was handled by MT this year, but started the CUSA year 2–0) and Marshall (who might just be the “pleasant surprise” from the East this year) but those are still impressive paper showings. Now I’m even more worried about how WKU might play.
Stats that probably wont matter because they didn’t against UTEP: The 9ers are giving up 31.0 points per game, are allowing 233.0 passing yards per game (81st most in the country) and are surrendering 192.7 rushing yards per contest (97th most in the country).
Touching on Sanford’s impending presser right quick — I’m wondering most if a.) He’ll address his stubbornness to establish a non-existent rushing game and b.) If he’ll address how a rushing game could work this week, unlike in week’s past.
This is the first ever meeting between the Tops and the up-start 49ers. CUSA was very kind to Charlotte and didn’t force them to play the Tops during the Brohm era. Oh, the horror.
Before y’all start clamoring about how the game will be viewable, it’s the second FloSports game on the year. Which means you’ll have to subscribe for $20 a month in order to view the one, three-hour game. More on that here.
That’s it for this week — not a lot of thoughts, honestly. Really, it begins and ends with this: Charlotte (again, on paper) has kept it close in their first two conference games, so I’m super banking on WKU struggling much like they did against UTEP. Which isn’t a good feeling.
But you already knew that.
