After few weeks after offensive coordinator/QB coach Zach Kittley and wide receivers Josh and Jerreth Stern left Houston Baptist to join Tyson Helton and the Tops, HBU star quarterback Bailey Zappe will be rejoining his teammates in Bowling Green.
Zappe was putting up huge numbers at Houston Baptist under Kittley and his air raid offense including a game against Texas Tech where he threw 30-of-49 passing with 567 yards and four touchdowns.
This guy knows how to light up a scoreboard. In his career at HBU, he’s thrown 8,466 yards on 61.9% pass completion with 73 touchdowns, 29 interceptions, and an overall career rating of 135.8.
One thing that was missing this past season was a strong passing threat from the Tops. While Pigrome was able to do a lot running the ball, we didn’t see the ball go through the air as much as many of us would want. But with Zappe and Kittley both being at the Hill, I would look for that to change next season.
WKU was most successful under coach Jeff Brohm and quarterback Brandon Doughty and those teams that seemed to average almost 400 yards a game through the air so I’m hoping we’re able to see that kind of offense return to the Hill after the past few seasons.
With these new pieces from Houston Baptist to add with coach Helton and his team next season, it definitely adds some more excitement and anticipation for next season to get here.
