UPDATED: It appears Mike Sanford is no longer in contention to be the head coach at the University of Arizona.
The outlet who first reported the news, 247Sports’ Wildcat Authority, came back early yesterday saying Sanford withdrew his name from consideration.
I believe he’s getting his information not from a source, but from a tweet Sanford sent out a couple of hours prior,
Now, if previous former WKU coaches (maybe one who’s chillin’ down in Tallahassee right now) are any indication, nothing is official until it’s official elsewhere, but with WKU having already stated that Sanford hasn’t been talking to anyone, I think it’s a fair assessment to say this drama is over.
For now.
Early Thursday morning, a report began to surface that Mike Sanford was a finalist for the head coaching vacancy at the University of Arizona.
It didn’t take long (relatively, at least) for WKU to make something of an official statement on the matter, in which Todd Stewart all but denied the report and said Sanford is committed to the Tops.
So, it seems like Sanford aint going now where for now, right?
Well…
Two days before Jeff Brohm informed the team and Stewart that he’d be leaving for Purdue, we got this line from Stewart;
I’m not here to say that Sanford is gone. Nor am I here to say he’s leaving 100%. I’m just here to say…it could go either way.
We’ll keep this thread updated with the newest information once we learn more.
Head on over to our new forums to discuss this with other WKU fans!
