WKU Football: Staff Predictions Week Eight — FIU
The Tops got back in the win column against Old Dominion and look to keep the momentum going against FIU.
The Tops got back in the win column against Old Dominion and look to keep the momentum going against FIU.
Thankfully all of us predicted the Tops winning but will we be on the same page this week?
This has been a busy week for a lot of our writers so our predictions might not be as in depth as normal but we still have some for you before the game
Matt McCay (4–2)
I believe FIU’s offense is dangerous, especially their receivers. Seven different players have explosive plays in six games. How many WKU players, you ask? Seven. FIU averages 18 yards per pass completion. They have a good running back. Fortunately, the defense is awful and they are usually an undisciplined mess.
I’ve got WKU winning easily, 57-32.
Alex Sherfield (2–4)
Rightfully so, the Tops got their first conference win last week at Old Dominion. The same storyline of being able to get another road conference win follows them into Miami against Florida International. Finishing in the red zone is a must for the Tops if they want more points on the board.
However, the Golden Panthers are not to be taken lightly because of their 1-5 record. They have an offense who is top five in CUSA in total offense. Being led by Max Bortenschlager, FIU is very efficient in their passing offense. Other than UTSA, it’s still a team that can get the fire going if we’re not careful. Also, Tyrese Chambers is a dangerous deep threat at wide receiver. He is only second behind Jerreth Sterns in total reception yards in the conference, averaging 113 yards a game.
The defense did a great job in only allowing 20 points last week. If Bortenschlager & Chambers can be contained, then it should make for another easy day despite the challenges.
Give me the Tops running away with this one. WKU: 52, FIU: 31.
Jacob Gary (2–4)
Tops keep rolling after last weeks get back on track performance.
Tops on top 48-23.
Devin Stewart (3–3)
Short and sweet once again. Give me the Tops, 45–28.
Sam Gormley (5–1)
Busy week but give me the Tops winning 52–35.
Jared Rosdeutscher (5–1)
FIU has struggled in many same areas as WKU so it could make for an interesting matchup. Ultimately I think Bailey Zappe and the offense can continue to rack up points on FIU’s defense and the WKU looked better against ODU so I have hope they’ll do well again tonight.
I’ll take the Tops winning 42–24.
