For the second time in two weeks, WKU Football announced a future road trip to a college football blue blood as they announced that they’ll travel to Columbus to play Ohio State on September 16th , 2023
This announcement comes on the heels of an announced road trip to Athens to play Georgia in 2026. While both games seem like a ways off, this bodes well for WKU Football moving forward. They are continuing to garner high profile buy games that bring significant revenue to the cash strapped program. Terms haven’t been announced but I’d guess they’ll get somewhere around the $1.9 million they got for the Georgia game.
These regional games also reward fans with drivable opponents (both Columbus and Athens are just over 5 hours from Bowling Green) with memorable big-time experiences. WKU has upcoming games against Arkansas, Alabama, Auburn, Michigan State, Louisville & Indiana to go along with Georgia and Ohio State. The two recent games would vault to the top of my road trip rankings that I published last year. Should WKU return to their 2015/16 form there is potential for a once in a generation type win in there.
Here is the list of future nonconference opponents. Kudos to Todd Stewart for giving fans fun road trips and beatable regional opponents.
