After much speculation, we now know where the former Tennessee Volunteer linebacker Will Ignont will be going and it’s to a familiar face in Tyson Helton at WKU.
Will Ignont was a four-star recruit coming out of high school according to 24/7 Sports in Alabama where he committed to the Vols and played three seasons.

Will Ignont is a 6-2, 238-pound Inside Linebacker from New Market, AL.247sports.com
In his three seasons with Tennessee, he made 68 total tackles (solo and assisted) and had two tackles for loss. His best season was his sophomore year in 2018 where he played in 11 games and had 47 total tackles.
Ignont reportedly left Tennessee for personal reasons after playing in three games this past season and will have two years of eligibility at WKU after he sits out in 2020. I’d expect WKU and Ignont to apply for a waiver to become immediately eligible in 2020 as they did with Georgia transfer Jaden Hunter in 2019. Helton’s history with Tennessee head coach Jeremy Pruitt makes the likelihood of getting UT’s blessing of the waiver very probable.
Either way, Ignont should provide a huge impact on the defense whenever he becomes eligible. The linebacking core was inconsistent last season other than Kyle Bailey. With Bailey, Ignont and Eli Brown coming back next season there is a lot of talent in the starting unit with tons of depth as experienced reserves Clay Davis, Damon Lowe, Malik Staples, and Jaden Hunter all still on the team for now. Ignont could be one of the new cornerstones on the defense over the next two seasons.
