WKU Football: Tops Land WVU Transfer Quarterback Jarret Doege
The grad transfer QB will give his college career one last ride with Western Kentucky
After Houston Baptist transfer Bailey Zappe came and conquered two FBS passing records, an Earl Campbell Award for best Texan college player, and a solid bowl win, WKU will once again be getting a quarterback from Texas with Jarret Doege.
Rated a three-star recruit (according to 247 Sports) from Lubbock, Texas Doege committed to BGSU out of high school in 2017.
At BGSU he would play two seasons for the Falcons and threw for almost 4,000 yards before transferring to Big XII school West Virginia.
He started off slow for the Mountaineers but with each of the last three season, he’s improved and in his last year with WVU he threw for over 3,000 yards and had 19 touchdowns with 12 interceptions. WVU would go 12-11 with him as the starting quarterback the last two seasons
Seeing how he’s improved and led a Power 5 school gives me hope that by joining WKU in C-USA he can keep the success that coach Helton has been able to achieve this past season going even with the losses on his coaching staff and roster. While the quarterback competition is unclear this early into next season Doege will definitely be a front runner to start and provides another veteran presence at quarterback for Helton to play as well as help the younger players on the roster grow.
