WKU Football: Tops of the Line - UTSA
Examining the betting lines on the WKU vs UTSA football game
Western Kentucky travels to the University of Texas San Antonio this weekend for a night time kickoff of 6pm eastern time. The game will take place in the Alamodome, so weather conditions won’t really be a factor, but you can bet the crowd will be pumped up and ready. Last year these teams played twice and both games were high octane shootouts that were extremely fun to watch. UTSA came out the victor in both the regular season, and the conference championship game.
Due to the shootout nature of both games last year and the points scored so far by both offenses this year, we have an incredibly high over/under at 73.5. The spread is set at UTSA -6.5 currently, which is a sizable gap of a touchdown that oddsmakers believe WKU will lose by. Western Kentucky’s moneyline odds are +210, and UTSA is -250. Hilltoppers are definitely the dogs here on the road.
The Over/Under (73.5)
It is one of the highest Over/Under you’ll see all season no doubt. And the crazy thing is, the Over will probably hit. I’m going to advise to bet on the over here for this game. Last year both games easily went over 73.5 points, both games combined for 90 points, and 98 points. This year will most likely be no different. UTSA is scoring 38.6 points per game, and WKU is averaging 43.4. From averages alone, the game is set to hit the over. I’d say this is going to be a high flying affair, with lots of points from both teams getting put on the board. Hit the over for sure, life is too short to bet the under.
The Spread (UTSA -6.5)
UTSA is basically favored by a touchdown here, if you want to take them on the spread you are hoping they win by 7 or more points. If you are betting on WKU at +6.5, you’re hoping they lose by 6 or less, or win the game. WKU’s +6.5 comes out at -105 odds, and UTSA’s -6.5 comes out with -115 odds so the payout is virtually the same. The only reason I’d take a spread bet here is if you are think UTSA is going to win by a touchdown or more, or WKU is going to lose by 6 points or less. I wouldn’t recommend taking the spread this game, but if you were going to I’d say take WKU +6.5. Both games last year were decided by 6 and 8 points. It is going to be a close game for sure.
Moneyline (WKU +210, UTSA -250)
I was surprised the Moneylines for this game made it in the 200 area. I was thinking they would keep both teams within plus or minus 100. That being said, I really like taking WKU as the dog in this game. It promises a decent payout of doubling your money with a little cherry on top, as long as the dogs come out on top. I’m big on revenge games, and it is hard to beat a team three times in a row. If you are betting the moneyline, bet on WKU. I wouldn’t take UTSA moneyline unless it is a part of a parlay, if you’re big on UTSA this game, go with the spread for a better payout.
Cheeky Bet of the Game
Last week was a bummer for our cheeky bet. Western was held under 30 points after 18 straight games at home scoring 30 plus. Devastating really, as WKU was driving and looking like they were going to score and tie the game up before fumbling their chances, and our bet away (the score would’ve won our bet of 30.5 team total points, lifting them to 34 points). But this week’s cheeky bet is different! I’m channeling a first quarter team total points bet for Western Kentucky. On draft kings, the over/under for WKU team total points in the first quarter is -6.5. All they have to do is score a touchdown and you can cash in on that bet (-155 odds, so not a bad payout at all) if they do. I’d say ride with me on another team total bet, and hit WKU 1st quarter over of 6.5.
Bet of the Week
I’m going to start adding on a bet of the week segment as well, just any sport I see a good bet for the week, I would suggest it in here. If it was before Thursday night this week, my bet highest bet for yall would have been the under on the Colts Broncos Amazon Prime Thursday Night Football showdown. Both offenses are… Well they leave a lot to be desired in many ways. Since I missed the day to give that out, I’ll choose another NFL bet that I love this week. Lions and Patriots have the over/under set at 45.5. The Patriots defense has been good, but the Lions offense has been rolling all season. It also helps that the Patriots offense will likely look a lot better against a struggling Lions defense, who are one of the worst in the NFL, if not the worst. I think it is highly likely that the point total goes over 46, so my bet of the week is this. It’s hard not to bet on a Bailey Zappe led offense as a Hilltopper fan.
