On Sunday in between the 1 p.m. and 4:15 p.m. NFL slate, big news came out of UTEP, the squad WKU will face in their first post-bye competition.
That’s right — after several downward seasons, Kugler is finally out at UTEP. Our Miner Rush pals have all the details:
Sean Kugler put together an 18–36 overall mark, including 11–22 in Conference USA play. He also led the Miners to one bowl appearance, but it wasn’t nearly enough for the coach to maintain his position.
According to the El Paso Times’ Bret Bloomquist, fellow UTEP grad and current interim offensive coordinator Brian Natkin is the likely candidate to take over the reigns for the remainder of the season.
Natkin took over the play calling for the UTEP offense just a week ago after second year coordinator Brent Pease was let go. Of course, UTEP Athletics Director Bob Stull also announced his retirement just weeks ago, leaving multiple major hires left to be made in the world of UTEP sports.
So, yeah, rough times in El Paso — without a football coach and on the hunt for an Athletic Director.
Of course, the fine gents at Miner Rush will have all the coverage you’ll need, so check them out not just today, not just throughout the week, but throughout the year as Alex and co. do a great job.
What do you think about Kugler being let go, less than a week from the WKU matchup no less. Does this mean the Tops will lay the hammer down? Let us know in a comment below, via Twitter at @TheTowelRackWKU or on our Facebook page.
