Rivals’ Kentucky Recruiting site, KentuckyPreps, caught up with 2019 Caldwell County defensive back Trel Riley about his recent offer from WKU.
You can view the whole interview below, but the WKU talk starts around 1:21.
Some brief quick hits on the interview:
It was the HHIC Sanford himself who offered Riley, and if 247Sports is to be believed the Tops are his first offer, so it can’t hurt that 1.) the Tops are showing interest early and 2.) it’s the head coach who is showing that interest.
Riley said the Tops really like his size (6'1", 170 lbs.) and his speed (we’re gonna take a look at some tape soon, but can confirm) and he likes the possibility of maybe stepping in and playing sooner rather than later. “They have a need for DB’s right now,” he said.
While technically listed as a cornerback, Riley said the Tops have expressed interest in playing him all over the secondary.
Riley said he’s been talking to/receiving love from: Louisville (he has a summer visit and a camp coming up), Wake Forest, Purdue, Memphis and Cincinnati
KR’s Dave Lackford wrote up a prospect profile back in December of 2016, and said the following of Riley:
The first thing that jumps out when watching his film is how physical Riley plays, whether it’s making a big hit or initiating contact in press coverage.
Watching his Hudl tape, it’s easy to see what Lackford was talking about. He love to lay a big hit as well as bodying a receiver up on the line, but he doesn’t sacrifice his speed with his physical play (it also doesn’t hurt that he played some receiver as well).
Riley would be a nice piece to have on the Tops signing class in 2019, but if I’m being candid, I think he has his eyes set on a school like UofL or Memphis. However, that doesn’t mean it wont be worth keeping an eye on his recruiting process as he enters his senior year.

The hard recruiting of the Sunshine State continued for the Tops, as they offered Jacksonville running back Terrell Jennings.
