A day after Charles Bassey declared for the NBA Draft without signing an agent, WKU Basketball got some good news as four-star Chattanooga Guard Jordan Rawls committed to WKU after a recent visit
Rawls is a 6'2" point guard that was rated as the 66th overall recruit in the 2020 class. He was recruited by high profile programs including Tennessee, Ole Miss, Iowa, Georgia, and Kansas State. With him reclassifying, Rawls will join WKU’s roster for the 2019–20 season and presumably fill the point guard void left by Lamonte Bearden’s graduations and Dalano Banton’s transfer away from the program. Here is a highlight tape of Rawls:
As you can tell, he fills the Hilltoppers need for not only a primary ballhandler but also seems to be a much-needed shooter for the Tops. He is the fifth 4-star or better recruit (Anderson, Bassey, Banton, Ongenda) that Stansbury has gotten to the Hill in his tenure. Stansbury continues to take advantage of players reclassifying to move up their college timeline a year joining Bassey, Nelson, Banton, & Nick Ongenda as players that he’s convinced to come to the Hill early. He joins Isiah Cozart, Jackson Harlan & Nick Ongenda in the 2019 class. With Rawls in the fold, WKU is now sitting at 14 scholarships (13 is the limit) with Bassey’s final decision still over a month away. With the point guard position now settled, I look for him to add a veteran guard (maybe Kenny Cooper) or shooter (Camron Justice) to fill out the roster. Rawls commitment definitely shows that Stansbury hasn’t lost his mojo on the recruiting trail.
