On Thursday afternoon, the Tops garnered a commitment from class of 2019 athlete Javion Posey, marking the third commitment of the week for WKU.
Posey is listed as a two-star athlete by 247Sports, and chose the Tops over App State, FAU, Georgia Southern, ULL, Southern Miss, UAB and UCF, among others.
Interestingly, 247Sports didn’t list the Tops as having offered. Posey is listed at 6'1", 185 pounds.
Posey has a cannon of an arm, and can sling it about halfway down the field if need be. He’s able to stand in the pocket but is able to escape from pressure, and can even throw it well on the run. His highlight tape doesn’t show off his ability to throw in tight spaces, so we’ll just have to see that with the Tops, I assume.
While carrying the ball, he’s slippery and is hard to bring down. When he’s running, he takes long strides and actually reminds me of a bit of a smaller Cam Newton, especially when he’s in space — the way he’s able to juke and jive away from defenders and the way he’s able to slide out of tackles, especially.
Posey is the 12th member of the 2019 recruiting class, joining Desmond Johnson, Travares Springer, Jordan Flack, Terrell Jennings, Daylen Powell, Mitchell Harralson, Clayton Bush, Joshua Black, Cory Munson, Stephone Atkinson and Dylan Morton.
Posey is the second quarterback — and second duel-threat quarterback — in the class, joining Stephone Atkinson. Those two commits, coupled with Kevaris Thomas’ commitment last year, continues to show the trend of Sanford wanting to run a dynamic, duel-threat ground-based offense. Will it work? Time will tell, but Posey — much like many of the 2019 guys — has me very excited.
