On Monday, WKU signee Dalano Banton will be one of twenty four elite high school basketball players that are either playing in or are from Canada in the fourth annual BioSteel All-Canadian game in Toronto.
Banton, a 6'6" point guard, (who is originally from Canada) came to the United States to play hoops and currently plays for Redemption Christian Academy in Troy, New York.
He is listed as a four-star recruit according to 24/7Sports and is the highest rated recruit in Rick Stansbury’s 2018 recruiting class.
Banton is a very unique and versatile player that will be a nightmare for defenders due to his length and size at his position and this game will let him learn from some of Canada’s most elite basketball minds.
This game is right in the backyard of the Toronto Raptors, who currently lead the East in the NBA. Their star DeMar DeRozan worked with the players and attended the game courtside, along with several other NBA scouts. In its short four years of existing, it has probably become the closest thing Canada has to the McDonald’s All-American game here in the states and showcases Canada’s top players. Two notable players that have played in this game in the past were Jamal Murray and Thon Maker to give you an example.
While no recruits from this year’s WKU incoming class will attend the McDonald’s All-American Game (Galen Smith III was nominated), Banton will be able to represent where he’s from in his home country’s biggest high school basketball showcase and be the first WKU signee to represent WKU in this game.
