Monday evening, the Hilltoppers got a big commit to bolster their 2019 recruiting class as Sarasota, Florida defensive tackle Tony Register gave his verbal commitment to the Tops.
Register will be a big addition to the Tops’ defensive line. The 6'4", 260 prospect is ranked a three-star recruit by 247Sports and is ranked the 103rd best DT in the nation.
According to 247’s commitment list, he had previously not been shown interest by the Tops, and only held an offer from Indiana, though Clemson, Florida, FSU and Notre Dame were included on his list.
His tape shows how big he is, bowling through players at the line of scrimmage like they’re nothing. He’s also able to chase the quarterback down and is able to disengage at the line of scrimmage. He also can be used, if need be, on the offensive side of the ball — he played tight end in high school and would certainly not be easy to bring down.
Register is the fifth hard commit of the class of 2019 for Tyson Helton and company and is the second defensive tackle of the class, along with Marcus Bragg from Arizona Western College, who signed his NLI during the early signing period.
