Late Saturday evening, the Tops landed a defensive tackle commit from the metro-Atlanta area as Sanford and Co. continue to hit the southeast recruiting trail hard.
Sy is a 6'2", 326 pound defensive lineman from Norcross (Ga.) High School, and will add size to that D-Line for years to come, even after the departures of Chris Johnson, who will leave after this year, Julian Lewis and Evan Sayner, who has two years left.
Watching his highlight tape from his senior year, Sy is quick off to get off the line and make key tackles, and for someone who is 300+ pounds, looks to be very very agile.
I don’t watch a ton of Hudl tape, but this one left me very, very impressed.
Sy, as all commits are doing recently, spoke with Michael McCammon after his commitment, and you can tell he’s excited about the growth of the WKU football program and he wants to be apart of it.
“The coaches and the vibe I got from them,” he said. “The way their defense is run I feel is a great fit for me.”
The reaction from the coaching staff when learning of his decision was certainly excitement.
“They were very exited and very welcoming to the family,” he told WKU Insider.”
Not ranked by Scout, Sy is considered a three-star prospect by 247Sports, and is listed as the #84 DT prospect and the #116 prospect in the state. Rivals also has him as a three-star recruit, and ranks him #79 in the Peach State.
Sy had eight other scholarship offers before announcing his intent to come to the Hill: Arkansas State, Ball State, Charlotte, Colorado State, Memphis, Troy, Tulane and Wisconsin.
