With the early signing period just nine days away, Tyson Helton added yet another impact Junior College transfer as Garden City Community College (KS) cornerback, Trae Meadows pledged to join the Hilltopper program.
Meadows is listed at 6' 1", 185 and is a former three-star recruit, who started his career at NC State. He left the Wolfpack after a personal matter and re-emerged in the highly competitive Kansas JUCO circuit.
On the season, Meadows finished with 34 tackles, one interception (returned for a touchdown), 12 passes broken up and a fumble recovery on a Garden City team that narrowly lost the JUCO National Championship to East Mississippi Community College, 10–9.
Meadows appears to be an instant impact player on a defense that loses seniors Dre Ferris and Drell Greene. His 6'1" frame will better help him match up against taller receivers.
With Meadows’s commitment, Tyson Helton has proved he is willing to fill roster gaps with Juco transfers that his predecessor said on the record was the “wrong way” to build a roster. Meadows joins Caleb Sampson as a JUCO transfer that started his career at a Power 5 school.
Meadows is the 16th member of the 2019 signing class, presumably, joining;
Dalvin Smith (WR)*
Ricky Barber (SDE)
Daylen Powell (OT)
Cory Munson (K)
Desmond Johnson (OLB)
Garrett Jennings (OT)
Travares Springer (CB)
Wes Dorsey (OT)
Jordan Flack (OG)
Clayton Bush (S)
Terrell Jennings (RB)
Mitchell Harralson (LS)
Javion Posey (ATH)
Webb Bates (P)
Caleb Sampson (DE)
