The Early Signing Period is officially upon us, as athletes can now sign their national letters of intent ahead of February's traditional NSD.
These are all of the athletes who have publicly given a verbal commitment to WKU. As the day progresses, we’ll remove their name from this list as it appears with them having signed.
Garrett Jennings (OT)
Wes Dorsey (OT)
Javion Posey (ATH)
Webb Bates (P)
Tre’ Bass (RB)
If you see we have missed a signing, hit us up on Twitter or Facebook.
All times listed below are eastern.
4:10 p.m. update
Per a tweet from Brad Stephens, Cory Munson has signed, bringing WKU’s “official” number to 17.
We know Mitchel Harralson has signed, bringing the number to 18, but with WKU not announcing him, I’m assuming he’s a PWO of some sort.
The class that remains unsigned has yet to sign with anyone else, as of now, which is good for the Tops.
WKU nabbed 13 players in last year’s early signing period, so it’s an improvement in terms of numbers. I also think there’s been a huge shift in turning the early period signing into “the” NSD, but that’s just an untested hypothesis at this point.
As it stands, WKU has the 83rd overall class on 247Sports, as well as the fifth-best in the conference, while Rivals lists the Tops as the 85th overall class and sixth in Conference USA.
10:50 a.m. update
Long-time commit Travares Springer is now a Topper.
As is one of the biggest names of the class, even if it’s just recency bias — but the one time USC, Nebraska and Louisville commit, Manny Allen.
17 have now signed with the Tops.
10:15 a.m. update
Two more NLI’s are in for the Tops, bringing the class to 15.
I’m really excited for both of these guys on the Hill — I’m biased with these Georgia kids, but Valdosta is a traditional football power and Smith has me excited for his future in the Tops’ receiving corps.
9:45 a.m. update
Had someone on Twitter ask about a couple of decommittments from Javion Posey and Garrett Jennings.
I can’t find anything about Posey decommitting on his Twitter timeline and 247Sports doesn’t have a decommittment date, either.
Jennings also has no signs of a decommittment — 247Sports’ timeline has no decommittment date and his Twitter profile has a healthy dose of WKU on it.
Maybe there was some confusion between Jennings and Brock Higdon? Who did decommit in favor of South Al.
9:30 a.m. update
Good morning, everyone! So our first update comes with already 11 players having signed their NLI’s today. Sorry about that…
Anyway, let’s run down who has signed!
My favorite signee so far if nothing more than because he’s coming to the Tops from the great game of Australian Football. He spent time with the AFL club Collingwood before coming to the Hill. Kentucky utilizes an Australian punter and our Sam Gormley says he’s legit, so it should be a great signing for the Tops.
It’s shaping up to be a bluegrass heavy class for the Tops, and Barber is the first.
A big get for the Tops — Atkinson decommitted in the wake of Mike Sanford’s firing but Helton’s squad continued pursuing his services and he’s officially a Hilltopper.
Trae Meadows, a recent verbal, is now a Topper.
Not only a Georgia boy, but from one of my old towns I lived in in Ellenwood, about 30 minutes south of Atlanta proper.
The first official JUCO player is in with Marcus Bragg.
Powell was an early verbal to the Tops and is now in the red and white.
Clayton Bush was THE original verbal of the 2019 class.
Someone asked us on Twitter if WKU was in on Randolph after his offer had been pulled from Louisville. 247Sports, at the time, said he hadn’t been offered. Apparently something changed. He’ll be a huge addition to the Tops’ offensive front.
Another recent verbal is in. Welcome to the Hill, Jeremiah.
Love the old school helmet. WKU has their next generation long snapper.
