Just before a press conference to discuss his now five man 2018 recruiting class, Rick Stansbury convinced 4-star point guard Dalano Banton to reclassify from the 2019 class to the 2018 class and become the crown jewel in the HIlltoppers 2018 class.
Banton is a 6'6" point guard prospect and was a Top 100 prospect in the class of 2019 according to both 247 Sports and Rivals. He moved from Canada and now plays for Redemption Christian Academy in Northfield, Massachusetts. He also held offers from Minnesota, Kansas State and UMass. Here is his highlight tape:
From the tape, you can see that he is a long and athletic guard that will bring size to the backcourt and help WKU matchup against bigger teams.
Banton is the fifth member of the 2018 class that includes point guard Jeremiah Gambrell, JUCO small forward Trevelin Queen and big men Galen Smith and Matthew Horton. Stansbury continues to elevate the talent level at WKU.
With Justin Johnson, Dwight Coleby and Darius Thompson set to graduate and three roster spots open due to unexpected attrition before the season starts, WKU may finally be close to stabilizing a roster that has been in constant flux since the Ray Harper years. Stansbury heads to the spring with probably one scholarship available and we all now wonder what he’s capable of next?
What do you think about Banton’s commitment? How many 4-star players can Stansbury average per class? Who will be an instant impact player? Let us know in a comment below, on Twitter or on our Facebook page.
