On Friday afternoon, Mike Sanford gained a verbal commit from Hart County’s Jamison Harkness, who announced he will become a Hilltopper via Twitter.
On his Hudl page, Harkness is listed as a 6'6", 290 pound defensive end and tackle, and is a very lean 290 at that. (For what it’s worth, 247Sports, who has literally only his measurements, says he’s 6'5", 280.)
His highlight tape has me excited; on the defensive side of the ball, he’s quick off the snap and is by far the strongest guy on his DL, consistently pushing guys back 5–7 yards on the play and winning every trench battle.
On the offensive side of the ball, he’s not as impressive (to me), but I’ll be completely transparent here, I really don’t know what to look for in a competent offensive lineman.
There really isn’t a whole lot on Harkness. From what I can tell, he held no other offers (which I’m sure isn’t exactly true, but it is possible he wasn’t highly coveted).
I hope he gets a chance on the defensive line, but he very well might be the missing piece in fixing the Tops’ OL. Anyway, if there’s one thing that has me smiling about this commitment, it’s the continuance of finding the overlooked Bluegrass guys. Who knows, Harkness might be the next Forrest Lamp.
