WKU head coach Rick Stansbury is putting in the work. He secured a top five commit last year with Sir Charles Bassey (yes that’s my nickname for him, hoping it sticks), and he’s eyeing recruiting splashes for the coming years as well.
Stansbury has helped elevate WKU to the next level both on and off the court (though, you can argue one comes with the other) and in recent days he’s shown no signs of stopping, garnering verbal commitments from Isaiah Cozart and Nick Ongenda in the 2019 and 2020 classes.
Let’s take a look at other big-names Stans and the Toppers have their eye on.
Class of 2019
The top recruit that Rick and the gang are hoping for is Tre’ Williams, who is from one of the coolest named schools and city, The Colony High school in The Colony, Texas. He’s a four-star small forward, with offers from Georgia Tech, Tulane, Old Dominion, Arkansas State, Milwaukee, Cal State Northridge and Pepperdine.
Bruce Guy, Jr. is a small forward from Memphis, TN where he plays at Cordova High School. Listed at 6'6", 185 pounds, Guy is a three-star prospect with offers from WKU, Virginia Tech, SMU, Morehead State, Iona, Tennessee Tech, Tulsa, MTSU, Murray State and Southern Miss. This young man could be a great asset to WKU not only because of his offensive ability but also his defense.
Luis Reynoso is a name that some people may remember because the Tops have been talking to him for a while. He’s a 6’5", 190 pound guard from Lawrence, Massachusetts and is considered one of the best guards coming out of New England. He loves to take the shot from down town and for good reason cause he can shot. Watching his workout video and highlights shows the work ethic he has as well as the talent this young man demonstrates.
He is being recruited by WKU and UMass. He also averages 21.5 points per game.
Mason Daniels is a Junior College prospect who’s a shooting guard from Atlanta, Ga., currently at Florida Southwest State College. If Stansbury can get this kid, the Tops will have a team full of shooters. WKU is the only team to offer him.
Class of 2020
The aforementioned Ongenda is WKU’s first verbal commitment from the 2020 class, and the Hilltoppers are just beginning. Stans and company are also after Judah Brown, from Bermuda Dunes in California and he plays for Pacifica Christian Orange County High School. He’s a small forward who is not afraid to throw his 6’8" frame around. Mr. Brown has offers from Sam Houston State, Pepperdine, Nevada, San Diego, Montana, Long Beach State, Rice, Abilene Christian, UC Riverside, California Baptist Portland, Pennsylvania and UTEP.
Class of 2021
Jonathon Kuminga is a small forward from the Congo with some high profile offers. Marquette, Central Florida, Arizona State, Memphis, TCU, Illinois, Dayton, Conneticut, Seton Hall, Texas Tech, LSU, St. John, UNLV, Baylor, Pitt, West Virginia, Auburn and Iona are all vying for his services. Obviously, this kids got some serious talent and he loves to dunk. Makes for some exciting hoops if he comes to the Hill.
Each of these dudes look so exciting, and that’s coming from a football guy. Even if just one, or hell even none, of these guys end up committing to WKU, just knowing the Toppers are playing in this high realm of recruiting is exciting.
